The Cambridge Mahler Orchestra

2017 — 2019
My first foray into graphic design came with the commission for poster and logo design in 2017 for the newly formed Cambridge Mahler Orchestra, by conductor Ed Liebricht.
Being new to logo and poster design, this was a jump into the deep-end for me, but I relished the challenge. After meeting with Liebricht, I ascertained he wanted the figure of Mahler himself to be central to both assets.
The final logo comprises of a silhouette based off a 1912 drypoint etch of the composer by Emil Orlik, and presenting to the client various options for the accompanying font. The one chosen we felt combined the historic figure of Mahler with the contemporary nature of the current orchestra.
Below you can see the series of posters I desgined over the next few years, keeping Mahler’s silhouette as a central motif, and surrounded by my expressive watercolour painting.
